Connect Factor8 to Claude and ChatGPT using the hosted MCP server.

Setup guide for Factor8

Factor8 connects to supported AI clients through a hosted MCP server, which lets you:

  • Access your brand context inside Claude or ChatGPT
  • Use Factor8 tools from supported AI clients
  • Generate brand-aware outputs using your active Factor8 brand

Each connection is tied to your Factor8 account and current brand context.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Factor8, make sure you have:

  1. A Factor8 account with access to the brand you want to use
  2. A Claude or ChatGPT account with support for remote MCP connections
  3. Access to your Factor8 login at https://app.leanlabs.com
  4. The correct active brand selected in Factor8 if you work across multiple brands

Install the app

Claude

Claude uses custom connectors for hosted MCP servers.

Pro and Max plans

  1. Open Claude Settings > Connectors
  2. Click Add custom connector
  3. Enter:
    • Name: Factor8 AI
    • URL: https://mcp.leanlabs.com/mcp
  4. Click Connect
  5. Sign in with your Factor8 account when prompted

Team and Enterprise plans

  1. An owner or primary owner opens Organization settings > Connectors
  2. Add the Factor8 MCP URL as a custom connector
  3. Each user then goes to Settings > Connectors
  4. Find the Factor8 connector and click Connect
  5. Authenticate with your own Factor8 account

Use it in a conversation

  1. Start a new Claude conversation
  2. Open the + menu or Search and tools
  3. Enable the Factor8 connector for that chat
  4. Ask Claude to use Factor8 tools or brand context

ChatGPT

OpenAI currently uses both apps and connectors terminology for these integrations.

Step 1: Enable developer mode

  1. Open ChatGPT
  2. Go to Settings > Apps & Connectors
  3. Open Advanced settings
  4. Turn on Developer mode if it is not already enabled

Step 2: Create the connection

  1. Go to Settings > Connectors
  2. Click Create
  3. Enter your connector details:
    • Name: Factor8 AI
    • Description: Factor8 brand context and tools
    • Connector URL: https://mcp.leanlabs.com/mcp
  4. Save the connector
  5. If prompted, complete the OAuth sign-in flow with your Factor8 account

Step 3: Use it in chat

  1. Start a new ChatGPT conversation
  2. Click the + button near the composer
  3. Choose More
  4. Enable the Factor8 connector for that conversation
  5. Ask ChatGPT to use your Factor8 tools

Use the app

Once connected, Factor8 can help with brand-aware tasks such as:

  • Reading your active brand context
  • Generating messaging, campaign, or page-copy ideas
  • Structuring outputs based on your brand settings
  • Pulling Factor8-managed context into AI-assisted workflows

Example prompts:

  • "What are my brand settings?"
  • "Give me three homepage headline ideas for my active brand."
  • "Summarize the positioning and voice for my current brand."

Connection details

Factor8 uses OAuth to connect your AI client to your account securely.

  • Each connection is tied to your Factor8 login
  • Your active brand is used for brand-aware context
  • Each user connects with their own account
  • For normal hosted setup, you do not need the old local Claude Desktop JSON config

Troubleshooting

"I don't see any tools after connecting"

  • Refresh the connector metadata in the client
  • Disconnect and reconnect the server
  • Make sure you used https://mcp.leanlabs.com/mcp exactly

"Authentication failed" or "it keeps sending me back to login"

  • Confirm you can sign in directly at https://app.leanlabs.com
  • Retry the OAuth flow from the client
  • Make sure your browser is not blocking the sign-in popup or redirect

"The AI is using the wrong brand"

  • Open Factor8 and switch to the correct active brand
  • Retry the prompt
  • If needed, disconnect and reconnect after switching brands

Security & permissions

When connecting any MCP server, including Factor8:

  • Only connect servers you trust
  • Review requested permissions during OAuth
  • Be careful with persistent approvals for write-capable tools
  • Disconnect the integration in the client if you no longer want it available

Q: Does Factor8 work with ChatGPT now?

A: Yes. ChatGPT supports remote MCP servers. Depending on the current OpenAI UI, you may see this described as apps, connectors, or apps & connectors.

Q: Do I still need Claude Desktop config JSON?

A: No. For the normal hosted Factor8 setup, use Claude's remote connector flow instead.

Q: Which URL should I paste into the client?

A: Use https://mcp.leanlabs.com/mcp.

Q: Why does brand context seem different between conversations?

A: Factor8 uses your authenticated account and active brand context. If you switch brands in Factor8, retry the prompt or reconnect if needed.

Q: Can I remove the connection later?

A: Yes. Disconnect Factor8 from the relevant client settings page at any time, and re-connect later if needed.
